University of Southern Indiana Theatre continues its spring 2018 season with a student directed production of Standing on My Knees, by John Olive, from March 22-24. It will be directed by USI theatre student Isabelle Rogers.
Catherine, a promising poet affected with schizophrenia, returns home from a stay in the hospital. She struggles to pursue her poetry, but the very intensity of writing brings on the hallucinations that plague her. At a party she meets Robert, and as their relationship deepens she begins to rely more heavily on medication to maintain a semblance of normalcy. Unfortunately, while the pills block the imaginary voices brought on by her schizophrenia, they also stifle her creative impulses and talent. Trying to handle both her relationship with Robert and her needs as an artist she cuts down on her medication, but as her illness becomes apparent Robert backs away. In the end Catherine faces the inevitable truth that she can be only one person.
Rogers will be joined by a design team of fellow USI students: Mikaela Fish as costume designer; Rafael Gonzalez as lighting designer; Morgan Book as scenic designer; Sydni Abel as production stage manager; and USI faculty member Kevin Gray as sound designer.
The cast of Standing on My Knees includes USI students Kaitlyn Kearschner, Drake Delap, Hope Williams, and Megan Lee.
